Comments: The expedition led by Single
“Dangeroos” Malt started at the ‘Bridge to Nowhere` across the Sacobia
river. Up the first ridge past the unnamed Negrito village for about an
hour until forced to a halt. It was to the cries of “we’re the Fukawi” and
other encouragement’s by myopic Mike. After a brief nap “Induces” allowed
us to proceed. We managed to find a way down the steep eastern side of the
saddle into a deep gully. Here someone uttered his infamous quote, “I’m
not one to complain Bob, I never do, but”. Prostrate with laughter we then
found an ill-defined track heading roughly in the right direction. The
track improved as we reached the top of the saddle. A Negrito family
caught up with us and said there was a way through to San Martin. The
trail became very good and we dropped, some of us literally, down into a
beautiful gorge on the Sapang Cauayan river. On up a nice path to the
small Negrito barrio of Burog and a vehicular track that was to eventually
take us to San Martin where spurred on by mumbling of “do you know where
we’re going?” etc, by the ‘Hero of the Himalayas` we had a brief stop at a
sari store for soft drinks. Then on down the dirt road to San Vicente and
across Sacobia bridge and to the finish at Parkson Duty Free. Refreshments
were taken at Mr T’s Patio bar on Fields Ave. Everyone agreed it was a
very successful and enjoyable hike. Having established the route from
Sacobia to Sapang Cauayan to Malago Rivers, on very good trails, the
potential for future hash runs in this area is excellent. D.D.
