Comments: The hike started at Mainang on the
ridge between Brgy Dap Dap and the Malago river, the object being to reach
Sapang Bato via four river valleys. We dropped down to the Malago river
and headed west upstream towards the mountains. Below San Martin Single
Malt showed us a very steep and obscure path up to the village. We headed
west again then forked south to stop at the local Aeta laundry that is in
a small gorge of the Sapang Cauayan river. We then carried on up to “the
saddle”, i.e. the pass over to the Sacobia river valley. At the top of the
pass two nameless over achievers (a Swiss and a Scot) took off at a rate
of knots leading the pack through a shit swamp to the Sacobia instead of
taking the hare’s easy route. With the hare’s in attendance and the two
FRB’s promising to mend their ways we crossed the Sacobia lahar went past
CSEZ Gate 14 and the True North golf course to eventually enter Sapang
Bato, and cross it’s river, through the old FEN gate at the fuel depot. On
on to Mr T’s Patio Bar. D.D.
