Comments:
New territory today as we drove
across the Gumain River at Basa Air Base to the small barrio of
Kaligtasan. We meandered about for a few kilometres, wasting an hour,
trying to find a way straight into the hills. When we found a track
going westwards it degenerated into a bit of a nuisance where it was
overgrown with tall grass. Nowhere else to go so we persevered until we
came upon a proper trail. This was the real thing and it made our day as
we strode through some terrific scenery before turning back on a
different route to our finishing point at Pabanlag by the Gumain River.
Pabanlag is a fair sized barrio but only about ten per cent of the
houses are occupied. All others including the church are just empty
shells with maybe a ghost or two floating in and out of the dark
recesses. Must be a story here but there was nobody around to tell it.
