Comments: This hike turned out not to be for the faint hearted. For starters we had to endure an extremely cold fifteen minute rain fall as we made our way to the water tank at Baclayan. At the Ponderosa we had a lunch stop at the sixth tee where on a previous hike we had to crawl on hands and knees through some very dense undergrowth to get to the same point. This time it was somewhat easier. It was a tough finish from the Aninuan River to Talipanan as we followed an incredibly steep trail to its two hundred and eighty metre ridge top which was christened “Mt Cojones” in honour of its discoverer Scrotum. It was a good day for nature lovers, for as we rested on top of the ridge a hawk hovered gracefully above our heads for a couple of minutes. Ten minutes before as we laboured up the hill a large white owl shot out of the grass a few metres in front of us and flew off to the safety of the nearest trees. Also in the forested area of our hike a six inch yellow and black banded caterpillar had sparked a bit of interest.
