Comments: Discovered a tranquil and lonely heath that leads to some pleasant surprises. Striding along an unexpected call stops us because we are invading a mining operation up there. A bit wayward yet we ask permission of the engineer to give us a right of way, ‘no problem’ he says ‘continue along and take a look around’. At first we thought that it was a track that time forgot, but we were dead wrong. The beauty of the mountain side was the tangible proof that God exists on this land. Our tired feet took us to the isolated scenic bluff at But-ol. There we sat down marveling at the view while chatting with the local miners who told us where all the surrounding trails would take us. Coming back to the O’Donnell River we were bouncing down the steep volcanic ash and sand covered slope with Urangutak all the while yelling ‘like skiing in Switzerland’ minus the ski and snow. In the end we were happy that we had been giving the authority to visit the place that produces one of the most important metallic elements in the world, Manganese.    S.S.I.
