Comments: After today we can say that the rainy
season is back with a bang, if not a tiny explosion. We crossed over the
Malago River four times on our way to the small sitio of Mataba with no
problems weather wise and then it was up the easy going trail to the ridge
between the valley of the Malago River on the west side and the narrower
valley of the Marimla River on the eastern flank. Of course it was when we
were open to the elements that the rains started and we hotfooted it to
the nearest cover that was quite a distance away as trees are a scarcity
around here. Rather than hang about all day we quickly moved on down the
steep path towards the Marimla River
and Burog to complete our loop back to Sta Rosa. At the bottom, and
although the river is only about fifteen feet wide way up here in the
hills, it was rollicking and raging at an almighty speed. Clearly, an
attempt to cross would have some serious consequences so it was up the
hill and back the way we came. The
Malago
River being a lot wider but now much
deeper it was still with some difficulty that we managed to navigate a way
through the rocks hidden by the sandy coloured swirling water. Induces,
old and decrepit as he is, hired two Aeta’s to take him over the river the
four more times, one to each elbow. Induces, being Induces, left his two
“devoted” slaves Jenny and Cathy to fend for themselves.
