Tropical storm “Cosme” was thrashing its way
through Pangasinan as we were trudging up the middle of the narrow
Sapang Bayo Creek getting heavily soaked by the tail end of the storm.
We then entered a seven hundred metre tunnel like portion of the creek
before clambering up and out through a small waterfall and into a
clearing with four streams including our creek flowing out of different
valleys. We were looking for a loop back to civilization again but could
not find any other way out. Up here in this quiet and rugged area
between the Sacobia and Pasig/Potrero Rivers there were some other
creatures hanging about minding their own business, a carabao with five
young ones in tow. How they got into the clearing was a mystery, there
was some speculation regarding rustlers, but then if pigs can fly then
maybe a carabao can fly as well.
