Comments: Some of us or should I say one of us had wanted to do this Matain River, Kalaklan Ridge loop behind Barrio Barretto for quite some time now and today was that day. Our P.I. member had wandered outside Johansson’s restaurant and negotiated a reasonable price, apparently acceptable to all, with the local trike drivers to take us to Naugsol thereby missing out three kilometres of boring concrete road. Well somewhere along the road they wanted to renegotiate and the skin tax metre was turned on. Does it sound familiar. Well we abandoned the trikes earlier than we wanted to and this then enabled us to do the magic thirty kilometres right to the Arizona front door. It is a pleasant walk up the tree covered Matain valley track which eventually gives you great views of Subic Bay, Mapanuepe Lake, Santo Tomas River, Mt Balakibok and from the Kalaklan Ridge, Olongapo. Halfway along the ridge we came upon the quaintly named Tralala with its well designed church which stands out from a long way off. No oompha band or trombonists thrashing out Dixie or Swing just some guys playing basketball.
