Comments: Today’s plan was to get to Sapang Bato from Villa Maria to check out the terrain as a potential Ball Buster run for the Pan Asia Hash next year. Well do plans fall apart. Minutes into the hike starting from Inararo a sitio of Villa Maria we hit an on back which was no big deal as we only lost minimal time. So onto the proper trail which was real jungle stuff taking us forty minutes to reach the ridge looking down on Sapang Uwak our first objective. Once on the ridge it became patently obvious that all the trails from a few years ago had gone A.W.O.L. For the next two grueling hours it was blood, boozy sweat and lots of cussing as we battled through tall grass and tightly knit scrub, clusters of banana trees, sudden stops overlooking mini cliffs before it was decided to turn back whereupon of course we came onto, practically tripping over it, the trail going down to the Porac river. No time left for Sapang Bato so Hacienda Dolores became our final destination. It is a great one hour walk from Sapang Uwak to Hacienda Dolores with its pretty rice paddies and would be a splendid area for a Pan Asia run but unfortunately at the only place for an on home the old garbage problem rears its ugly smelly head. Out of Sapang Uwak we had came upon a hapless clegyman whose vehicle was well and truly mud stuck and with some pushing and shoving we got him back down the hill to firmer ground. Amen.
