Comments: Today’s hike was to the Sapang
Cauayan River. Previously Saput and Single Malt had found some six feet deep
swimming holes on this narrow river and today the intention was to explore
the source upstream. We made the pools and had lunch in a pleasant spot
with colourful rock structure made smooth over time. Armpit and Saput had
a swim, Tiger got some lessons and Crispin our other four legged hasher in
contrast was thrown in by Pussy Whipped with the words “fucking dog”
echoing around the gully walls. Saput and Spiderman with back packs over
their heads wadded, in true Indiana Jones style, upstream in a fifteen
foot wide
gully with steep sides. Eventually they had to leave their packs on some
rocks, as they had to swim on to shallow water with the rest hesitating to
follow. Single Malt, a non-swimmer, declared that he was going to piss off
up a hill for an hour of investigative hiking and disappeared in a cloud
of dust. What he found will be looked into later. Meantime, Saput and
Spiderman, further upstream, had found evidence of Aeta activity and
another trail up out of the gully. Unfortunately there was no time to go
further. This will also be looked at later. When everyone met up again
back at the stream crossing we returned to CSEZ via a new trail through an
unnamed Aeta village, which saved fifteen minutes on our outgoing trail.
