Hashers Details
On Home: Nazasa Bay, Redondo Peninsula, Subic Bay On On Home: Beachside Café, Barrio Barretto, Subic Bay Comments: This was one of those hikes in which the epilogue was longer than the play. The walk was pleasant enough, over the lower pass of the Nazasa Ridge, with good views and a fairly challenging trail. Then the drama really began. Teutonic’s plan to take a banca to nearby San Miguel was thwarted by typhoon-induced waves. So we all had to take a longer and more expensive, (the banca owners had us by the short and curlies), ride to Barrio Barretta. After three hours of nerve-wracking defiance of stormy seas and high winds everyone made it back, (rather than beers when we reached the Beachside Café it was mugs of very hot coffee that were ordered because we were all bloody freezing), except for Teutonic and Induces who were unceremoniously dunked in the drink about halfway there. After what seemed like an eternity of thrashing around in the dark and trying to paddle the banca to shore they were saved from Davy Jones locker by a passing fishing boat. And, as an epilogue to an epilogue, Proposition, very foolishly, walked the trail in reverse almost getting lost and arriving in Barrio Barretto at two o’clock the next morning. We have been near the edge, so to speak, before. This was nearly over the edge. No more Doggy Dave’s scenarios as in run number thirty.
