Comments: This was the big one – an event like Armpit’s gazebo run that is a defining moment in hash history. A 05.30 a.m. start was required to complete this epic adventure which involved crossing the ridges between Basa Air Base in Pampanga and Aglao near San Marcelino in Zambales. The event unfolded like a symphony, an allegro first movement over grass and tree covered hills in the cool of the morning, followed by a rugged andante over several banana infested ridges, a serene minuet across a “Marlboro Country” plateau and a downhill prestissimo to the shores of an emerald lake newly formed by Mt Pinatubo’s eruption. The finale was a short (and safe!) boat ride across this lake to end a perfect day for the chosen few participants, courtesy of the trail blazing hares Teutonic and Induces, who amazingly, had re-coned the same route only the week before. I.M.

This comments column is definitely about blowing your own trumpet. Thank you Satchmo Boydell.
