Comments: Starting in Burog it was noted that there were three religious bodies looking after the spiritual needs of the Aeta’s, the Catholic and Igelesia Ni Cristo church’s being conspicuous by their absence. We mulled over the reason for this omission for about ten seconds and all came up with the same conclusion, i.e. the Aeta’s are skint. Well back to the hike. Saput, Spiderman, T.I.B. and Tongue In Cheek went exploring the upper stretch of the Sapang Cauayan River with their buoyancy bucket, finding along the way a Japanese bunker halfway up a hundred foot high cliff face. Despite a few hair raising attempts they were unable to get anywhere near it. Could this be the resting place of Yamashita’s gold? Watch this space for tales of jolly back stabbing reminiscent of Huston and Bogart’s “Treasure of Sierra Madre”. The rest of the pack on their so called chicken run found some great, long single file trails all of which came to sudden halts in the middle of nowhere.
